Hedley Lewis, Former CEO of CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA, shared on LinkedIn:
“Farewell!
After a profoundly meaningful chapter in my life, I have recently stepped down as CEO of CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa.
Leading CHOC for almost five years has been one of the deepest honors I’ve ever known. This is an organization that runs on pure humanity – where every single day, remarkable people choose to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with children and families facing childhood cancer, offering not just care, but real hope, dignity, and unwavering love.
I am endlessly grateful to the board, management, and staff across the country – you are the beating heart of CHOC. The entire team’s dedication, resilience, and compassion have moved mountains and touched lives in ways words can barely capture. You inspire me every single day. To the partners, donors, clinicians, and volunteers — thank you for believing so fiercely in this mission. Your support has been the bridge that turns fear into courage and isolation into community.
But above all, I bow my head in humility to the children and families. Their courage in the face of unimaginable challenges, their light that refuses to dim, and their strength that lifts everyone around them – these are the memories I will carry with me forever. They have taught me more about life, love, and resilience than I could ever teach them.
CHOC will always have a piece of my heart, and I will continue to support its mission in every way I can.
Thank you – from the very depths of my soul – to every person who has been part of this beautiful, life-changing journey. You have made it unforgettable.
With endless gratitude and hope.”
