Hathal Haddad, Head of Interventional Radiotherapy Unit at University Hospital Tübingen, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“July Is Sarcoma Awareness Month.
Every year, thousands of people around the world are diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and diverse group of cancers that can affect both children and adults. Although uncommon, sarcomas require highly specialized, multidisciplinary care.
Radiotherapy plays a pivotal role in the management of many soft tissue and bone sarcomas by:
- Improving local tumor control.
- Preserving organs and limb function.
- Reducing the risk of local recurrence.
- Supporting better long-term outcomes.
- Working synergistically with surgery and systemic therapies.
Interventional Radiotherapy (Brachytherapy) is an important treatment option for selected sarcoma patients. By delivering radiation directly within or adjacent to the tumor bed, brachytherapy enables:
- Highly conformal dose delivery.
- Excellent sparing of surrounding healthy tissues.
- Dose escalation where needed.
- Reduced treatment-related toxicity.
- Improved functional preservation in appropriately selected cases.
As we recognize Sarcoma Awareness Month, let us continue to raise awareness, promote early diagnosis, support research, and improve access to specialized sarcoma care.
Together, we can help more patients receive the right treatment at the right time.
Raise Awareness. Support Research. Inspire Hope.”
