Harold J. Burstein, Breast Cancer Specialist and Professor at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and at Harvard Medical School, shared a post on X:
“Antibody drug conjugates move forward in 1st line mTNBC though patients will find the experience similar to chemotherapy in terms of IV infusions and side effects.”
Sharing the post, Paolo Tarantino, Research Fellow Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical Schoolpost, added:
“ADCs are often more effective than chemo. Yet, in terms of tolerability, they are often more chemo than chemo, i.e. they deliver a higher dose of toxic payload for a longer time, producing fatigue, alopecia, nausea, neutropenia, among others. Important to be honest with patients.”
Dr. Kelly Shanahan, Director at METAvivor Research And Support, also reshared it, noting:
“Harold J. Burstein makes an important point here: although often touted as ‘smart bombs’ with fewer off target side effects, ADCs are 1) given IV and 2) often have side effects similar to traditional chemo. This is why we need robust research funding – to find efficacy And good QoL.
