Hannatu Ayuba: Adama Pinktober Promotes Inclusive Breast Cancer Education and Screening

Hannatu Ayuba, Consultant Radiation and Clinical Oncologist at National Hospital Abuja, shared on LinkedIn:

“The hearing impaired community appreciation speech session at Adama Pinktober in the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital during the screening session, the community had never had such an experience on cancer education.

They saw the uniform information passed to everyone same to them at the Townhall meeting on Thursday 15th October 2026, their participation in the screening process, refreshments and an amiable environment.

One of them had a breast lump detected too small for the trucut biopsy needle, we and the radiologists discussed the research protocols and agreed an excision biopsy was appropriate. An excisional biopsy with samples sent for HandE, awaiting if to be sent for IHC (to be given to Roche) PCR (for biomarkers ER, PR, Ki 67, Her2neu P53 mutation analysis with Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Nigeria ) and for the batch for molecular testing if it qualifies.

About Pink October

Pink October is a global awareness campaign dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. It encourages women to prioritize their health, attend regular screenings, and learn about breast cancer risk factors. The campaign also highlights the importance of access to timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and supportive care. Through education, community engagement, and collective action, we can help reduce the impact of breast cancer and support those affected by the disease.
