Guillermo Chantada and Andrea Llera: Establishing a Pediatric Precision Medicine Program in Argentina

Guillermo Chantada, Head of the Outreach Program at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and Scientific Director of the Perez Scremini Foundation, shared a post by Andrea Llera, Principal Investigator at CONICET and Senior Research Associate at Fundacion Instituto Leloir, on LinkedIn, adding:

“A monumental effort. This project was conceived in 2017. It survived major finantial crisis in Argentina, the COVID pandemia but still, it could be done. Not only in Argentina but including Uruguay, Chile and Brazil. Probably the first in kind. I am so proud of having participated from its inception.

Thanks Andrea Llera for your leadership and to all the authors for believing in this endeavor. Also this project received official funding from the Agencia in 2017 and the support of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Medicina Traslacional (IIMT) CONICET – Universidad Austral was critical. The Leo Messi foundation also donated funding and I would also like to acknowledge the support of Esteban Cvitkovic and the Instituto Oncológico Henry Moore. A big effort shared by many.”

Quoting Andrea Llera’s post:

“I would like to take this opportunity to mention my esteemed colleague Silvina Arrossi to tell you that after a long journey we can share our experience, together with Guillermo Chantada, in the establishment of a pediatric precision medicine program in Argentina that included an international medical team of excellence.

There is still a long way to go and we hope that despite the unfavourable situation we can continue this project in the future.

Thanks to Fundación Natalí Dafne Flexer and all our sponsors, in particular the BAYER Popia Award, for the invaluable support.”
