CancerWorld shared on LinkedIn:
“She once faced cancer alone. Today, her life’s work is making sure no one else has to.
When Gloria Chinyere Okwu was diagnosed with breast cancer, fear, misinformation, financial barriers, and the absence of another survivor shaped the decisions that followed.
‘I didn’t know anyone that could encourage me. I had not seen a cancer survivor.’
She refused chemotherapy. Her cancer returned. Eventually, Gloria found her way back to treatment and made a decision that would define everything that came next:
She would become the person she had needed.
Today, as a patient navigator and advocate in Nigeria, Gloria turns lived experience into information, support, and hope for others, while calling for greater access, empathy, and patient involvement in cancer care.
Her philosophy says it all:
‘Nobody walks alone.’
