Gianluca Franceschini, Full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Master’s Program in Integrated Therapies for Female Oncological Pathologies at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared on LinkedIn:
“The real innovation in healthcare? Taking care of the person!
It is a deep conviction that, as the Senology Team of the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital Foundation IRCCS, we try to translate into practice every day.
Because treating breast cancer does not only mean taking care of the disease, but taking care of the person as a whole, during therapies and even after.
From this vision our PIDTA was born: the Integrated Diagnostic-Therapeutic-Assistance Pathway, which integrates oncological treatments with psychological, nutritional and physiotherapeutic support, together with adapted physical activity.
The PIDTA is not simply a set of services: it is a different way of organizing care, really putting the ‘Person at the Center’.
The challenge is to make this model sustainable, consolidate it and spread it, so that it can generate concrete value for patients.
This is the path we are pursuing at the Gemelli Polyclinic and that we tell in our work published in the journal Minerva Surgery:
Because the progress of medicine is not only measured in the years of life gained, but also in the quality of life returned.”
