A Landmark Event Led by the Ministry of Health of Ghana – World Child Cancer

World Child Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Our Ghana team joined partners from across the country for the National Cancer Forum – a landmark event led by the Ministry of Health, Ghana.

From the opening remarks to each working session, one message came through clearly: children with cancer deserve better, and change is possible when we work together.

It was a privilege for our Ghana team to be in the room, hearing first-hand the plans to strengthen paediatric oncology services, and ensuring the voices of children with cancer and their families were represented. We’re also proud of the incredible Adwoa Pinamang Boateng Desu, who represented World Child Cancer on a panel during the Forum.

What stood out most

A renewed commitment to progress: The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its plan for a 5-Year National Cancer Roadmap, a blueprint for earlier detection, fairer access to treatment, and stronger health systems. Plans to support diagnosis and treatment through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund from 2026 show a clear step toward reducing financial hardship for families.

A shared vision for better data: Across the room, partners agreed – Ghana needs one national cancer registry. Consolidating existing registries and powering them with digital tools would transform the country’s ability to plan services, improve care, and strengthen research for children, women, and men.

The power of partnership: The Forum also highlighted how public–private partnerships will be essential to expanding diagnostic services so children can be diagnosed earlier and treated faster – no matter where they live.

A huge thank you to our brilliant Ghana team for their advocacy.”
