“Implementation Challenges of a Multi-Center Financial Navigation Intervention: A Qualitative Analysis of Operational Process Data.
Scaling financial navigation across multiple oncology sites is possible, but it requires more than a strong intervention alone.
In implementing the Lessening the Impact of Financial Toxicity (LIFT) intervention across eight oncology centers, Austin R. Waters PhD MSPH and colleagues identified workforce shortages, competing clinical demands, limited organizational resources, and the complexity of financial aid systems as major barriers.
At the same time, flexible delivery, tailored patient communication, and ongoing technical/peer support helped teams adapt in real time.
Using operational data to guide implementation may help make financial navigation more scalable, sustainable, and effective in reducing financial toxicity for patients with cancer.”
