Gary Doherty: North America Trip on Lung Cancer Collaboration and Discussions

Gary Doherty, Vice President, Global Clinical Strategy Head, Lung Cancer at AstraZeneca, Dean, Fellow and Director Of Studies at Robinson College, Cambridge, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Back from an incredibly productive trip across North America and deeply grateful to everyone who made this series of conversations and engagements so meaningful.

The last two weeks brought together a remarkable range of connections, including with Canadian Cancer Trials GroupOncology executive members and investigators at their annual meeting, visiting the outstanding Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and meeting in person with our inspirational Late Development Oncology Leadership Team.

The exchange of perspectives and the spirit of collaboration across each of these moments further deepened my conviction in what we can achieve together: eliminating lung cancer as a cause of death.

I was honoured to address the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Leadership Academy on Leading Through Uncertainty, alongside an outstanding faculty. And it was a particular privilege to speak at the Women in Thoracic Surgery reception at AATS 2026, a room full of exceptional leaders who don’t just talk about change – they drive it. Both moments were a powerful reminder of how much partnership and shared purpose matter in advancing what we do.

Above all, time spent with our medical and clinical development teams in Canada stood out as the highlight. The depth of talent, expertise, and commitment I witnessed is a constant source of inspiration, and a daily reminder of our commitment to patients.

Oh, and a Blue Jays vs Red Sox game in Toronto didn’t hurt either.”
