“Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute (FCS) has announced a planned leadership transition as part of a long-term, thoughtful succession strategy.
After more than 23 years of service and executive leadership, Lucio N. Gordan, will transition from his role as president and managing physician, effective December 31, 2026. Dr. Gordan will continue in his role through the transition period, supporting continuity and a seamless handoff to David Wenk, who will assume the role on January 1, 2027.
As part of the succession plan, Dr. Gordan will serve as chair emeritus beginning in 2027. He has also been appointed chief of clinical innovation at McKesson, where he will collaborate across McKesson Oncology and Multispecialty to advance scalable clinical innovation across the oncology ecosystem.
This transition reflects the strength of FCS’ physician leadership and teams, and the practice’s continued commitment to stability, innovation, and excellence in community oncology. With more than 40 years of history, FCS is well-positioned to continue delivering world-class cancer care across Florida and beyond.

“After more than two decades of combined service and executive leadership at Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, I’ve shared plans to transition from my role as FCS’ president and managing physician, effective December 31, 2026.
I will remain in my current role through the transition period to support continuity and a seamless handoff to David Wenk, an exceptional physician leader who will assume the role of president & managing physician on January 1, 2027. FCS will be in the most capable hands.
As part of a long-term succession plan, I will assume the role of chair emeritus in 2027 and continue supporting our practice’s mission and leadership.
Many of you know, I have a deep passion for research and exploring new and innovative advancements in oncology care.
