Enrique Soto Perez de Celis: Bridging the Clinical Trial Evidence Gap for Older Adults with Cancer

Enrique Soto Perez de Celis, Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Older adults account for the majority of people living with cancer, yet they remain underrepresented in clinical trials. Real-world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) offer an important opportunity to bridge this evidence gap and support more personalized, patient-centered care.

I’m pleased to share our new review․ In this paper, we discuss:

  • How RWD can complement randomized clinical trials in older adults
  • Opportunities to better understand treatment effectiveness, toxicity, quality of life, and healthcare utilization
  • The role of electronic health records, registries, wearable devices, and patient-reported outcomes
  • Current challenges, including data quality, confounding, standardization, and ethical considerations
  • Future directions, including artificial intelligence, decentralized clinical trials, and global data networks

Many thanks to my co-authors Adolfo González-Serrano, Charline Jean, Capucine Baldini for a fantastic collaboration.”
