Emad Shash, Leading Cancer Researcher and Director at National Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:
“Nausea matters, even when there is no vomiting.
Chemotherapy-induced nausea can significantly affect a patient’s quality of life. Prevention deserves attention from the very first cycle, supported by clear patient education and regular conversations about symptoms.
I am sharing this important MASCC video in memory of Eva, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
‘Overcoming Chemotherapy-induced Nausea and Vomiting: A Patient’s Perspective from Eva Schumacher-Wulf’
As a patient partner, Eva brought invaluable insight into the experience of living with cancer and managing treatment side effects. Her contribution reminds us why the patient’s voice must help shape our priorities and our everyday practice.
This message speaks directly to my commitment to
- patient education
- navigation
- supportive care
Every patient should understand their symptom prevention plan, feel comfortable reporting nausea, and know when and how to seek help.
For us as oncology teams, that means asking about nausea explicitly, listening carefully to its impact, and reviewing symptom control throughout treatment. These conversations deserve a place in every patient’s care.
Thank you to The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) for honoring Eva’s contribution and continuing to share her voice. May her legacy inspire us to listen more closely, act earlier, and place patients’ quality of life at the heart of cancer care.
Please watch and share this message with colleagues, patients, and caregivers.
Watch and share the MASCC video”
The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC), added:
“Our new short video highlights the real impact of chemotherapy-induced nausea, with or without vomiting, and why prevention matters from the start.
The voiceover is provided by Eva Schumacher-Wulf, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Since connecting with MASCC in 2023, Eva was a true thought leader in our community, generously sharing her insights on managing the symptoms and side effects of cancer from the invaluable perspective of a patient partner.
This video honors her tireless work and legacy.”
