Di Eggins, Senior National Manager, Lung Screening Programs at Cancer Council Victoria, shared on LinkedIn:
“Lung cancer screening is already saving lives.
More than 100,000 Australians have participated in the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) since it launched one year ago and over 230 primary lung cancers have been detected.
It’s an encouraging milestone, marking an important step towards reducing the impact of lung cancer in Australia.
We are proud to celebrate the recent re-launch of It’s Good to Know – a national, equity-first campaign that we’re delivering in partnership with the Australian Government and a consortium of community organisation to reach the communities most impacted by lung cancer and reduce barriers to screening. Because while we’ve made significant progress, there’s still more work to do to ensure everyone who is eligible knows about the program.
Lung cancer remains Australia’s leading cause of cancer-related death, but when found early, more than 65% of lung cancers can be successfully treated.
If you’re aged 50 to 70 and have a history of smoking, you may be eligible for a free lung screening scan through the NLCSP.
Help us spread the word by sharing the It’s Good to Know campaign with your networks. Because when it comes to lung screening, it’s good to know.
