“Surviving cancer and living well after cancer are not quite the same thing.
Five years into the EU Cancer Mission, this is a good moment not only to reflect on what has been achieved, but also on what cancer care should look like during and beyond treatment.
I look forward to joining the EU Cancer Mission Showcase Event in Brussels, 29 September–1 October, and particularly to moderating the session ‘Quality of Life, survivorship and palliative care: holistic quality care models and patient engagement.’
Our discussion will focus on some of the questions that increasingly define meaningful survivorship: how we support adolescents and young adults beyond treatment, integrate mental health into cancer care, address return-to-work challenges and stigma, and ensure that patients themselves help shape the services designed for them.
We will also explore the potential of the European Cancer Patient Digital Center, including its mental health module, and how PROMs and PREMs can help translate patient experience into better clinical practice and policy.
