Charles Balch: A Landmark Study Ending the “One Size Fits All” Approach to Mammograms

Charles Balch, President of the International Society of Oncology Prevention and Treatments, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Laura J. Esserman et al. published in JAMA:

“This is a landmark study. It defines 4 risk groups of women and then has a standardized schedule for the age and interval of mammograms: high risk, elevated risk, average risk, and low risk. Equally important is the finding of the low-risk women who can be spared the cost and anxiety of having mammograms at an age and frequency without benefit. No more ‘one size fits all approach’!”
