Chad Pecot, Full Professor at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Director of UNC RNA Discovery Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This is me at 20, getting my last dose of chemo with Dr. B. I spent 3 months living in the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, surrounded by patients fighting their own battle.
That experience gave me a purpose, a mission to care for others facing the plight of cancer. I spent the next 5 years being mentored by Dr. B (I gave him no choice).
Fast forward 8 years: I took on the challenge of starting a career as a cancer researcher at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the American Cancer Society was there again to fund my first career development award.
Today, 25 years later, I got to share about how the ACS has always been a part of my journey.
Thank you American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN)!”
