Karen Canfell, Lead of Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC) at the University of Sydney, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“For the first time, in 2021 Australia recorded ZERO new cases of cervical cancer in people younger than 25 years! We attribute this to HPV vaccination. But – vaccine coverage is slipping from its peak, and there is more work to do. This Medscape piece covers the findings from our C4 2025 Cervical Cancer Elimination Progress Report, which was released on Nov 17, the world day of action for cervical cancer elimination.
C4 is an amazing collaboration, funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), and has now been going for nine years. This is our fifth national surveillance report on progress towards elimination.
Thanks and congratulations to all in C4, especially Julia Brotherton and Suzanne Garland – interviewed for this Medscape piece – and the other lead authors of the report, Megan Smith and Dorothy Machalek, Amy Pagotto and Prof Marion Saville AM.
Also thanks to the C4 collaborating institutions, The Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC), Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney, Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer, The Australian National University, Kirby Institute, UNSW Sydney and University of Melbourne, as well as National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS).”
