“From the whiteboard to Hong Kong.
Looking back at these pictures from one of our early site visits for the World Cancer Congress 2026 and at the slightly chaotic mood board that stayed on my office wall for months, it is quite special to see how those ideas came to life.
Site visits are one of my favourite parts of preparing a Congress. This is where we start imagining the experience, not only the programme, but how the destination, its culture and regional expertise can become part of it.
A big part of that thinking went into the Global Village, designed as a real meeting point for the Congress. A space bringing together the abstract programme, Spotlight Stage talks, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Pavilion and a multisport area, including Tai Chi, alongside our partners, exhibitors and community.
Thanks to the close collaboration with our friends at Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS) , we were able to give Hong Kong and regional knowledge a real place in the Congress.
That is one of the things I love about my work. An idea on a whiteboard, months of collaboration and then seeing people experience it for real.
Very grateful to our hosts and everyone who helped make it happen.
And yes, the whiteboard is already filling up again for Nairobi 2027 and Geneva 2028.”
