“I keep thinking about this saying: ‘Where you are in five years depends on who you meet today.’
Over the last five years, I’ve traveled a lot and met hundreds of people. I’m always curious about their stories: how they work, what they think, and what motivates them to be where they are. Their stories inspire me, give me energy, and bring meaning to my work.
This week I was in Riga and Vilnius.
Two cities, two hospitals, Bērnu klīniskā universitātes slimnīca / Children’s Clinical University Hospital and Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos, foundations and dozens of people I met, people who fight for children with cancer. People who organize care so that every child is treated well, who work to advance research, and leaders striving to make their country a model for Europe. People who raise funds and advocate for children.
If you look around, you can see there is hope. There are resources, and there is the will. Humanity is all around us. We have not lost it. Thank you all for this inspiring week. We will continue building together a world that will surely be better in the years to come.
I love my job because it’s about inspiring people who do inspiring work. About smiles, and sometimes tears. A nuanced world, never just black and white.
