Canadian Cancer Society shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Alyssa Vito always knew she wanted to help people affected by cancer. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society in high school and worked in her local hospital’s radiation oncology ward, planning a future as an oncologist.
But at just 23, she was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. Over 8 months, she underwent intensive treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
That experience changed her path. Instead of medical school, Alyssa moved into research, joining a Canadian Cancer Society-funded lab at McMaster University.
Her work focused on developing non-invasive ways to better detect breast cancer. Today, she continues this work, advancing research in immunotherapy and oncolytic viruses for the same type of cancer she once faced.
By participating in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, you’re helping fund researchers like Alyssa lead the way to a future without cancer.
