“We’re thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2025 Canadian Cancer Society Awards for Excellence in Cancer Research! These awards honour individuals who have and are making valuable contributions to the cancer research ecosystem in Canada.

Congratulations to all awardees!

For his far-reaching contributions to cancer research and genomics in Canada, Dr Marco Marra has received the 2025 Lifetime Contribution Prize. Dr Marra was one of the first researchers to show that genetic sequencing could identify new treatment options for people whose cancers had returned.

For her leadership in cancer research equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, Dr Shirin Abbasinejad Enger has been awarded the 2025 Inclusive Excellence Prize. Dr Enger is a global leader in medical physics and a champion for inclusive representation in cancer research.

For her work on cancer control, Dr Marie-Elise Parent has received the 2025 O. Harold Warwick prize. Dr Parent’s research focuses on understanding workplace and environmental factors – including tasks and substances – that can increase people’s risk of developing cancer.

For achievements in biomedical cancer research, Dr Vincent Giguère is the 2025 Robert L. Noble Prize awardee. Dr Giguère’s revolutionary discoveries about how cancer sends and receives signals in the body have led to not only new techniques for studying cancer, but also new tests and treatments.

For his work on cancer treatment, Dr Daniel Schramek is the 2025 Bernard and Francine Dorval Prize recipient. A genomics researcher, Dr Schramek has made major breakthroughs by discovering and analyzing many of the mutations cancer relies on to develop and survive.

For her contributions to advances in cancer control, Dr Sheila N. Garland has received the 2025 William E. Rawls Prize. Dr Garland’s research has taken on the challenge of understanding and addressing sleep disturbances in cancer survivors and people currently undergoing treatment.
