“Patient Engagement in Breast Cancer Survivorship Care.
Breast cancer survivorship remains one of the least defined phases in the cancer journey.
While diagnosis and treatment follow structured pathways and clear protocols, the survivorship phase is often fragmented – with limited guidance, coordination, and patient input.
To truly improve survivorship care, patients must be engaged as active partners in both research and clinical practice. Their lived experiences help us understand what matters most – from managing side effects and emotional well-being to navigating the healthcare system and accessing community resources.
Engaging patients also means involving them in guideline development, care planning, and evaluation, ensuring that survivorship programs are responsive, equitable, and person-centred.
As we continue to build models of care for breast cancer survivors, collaboration among clinicians, researchers, and patient partners is essential to fill the existing gaps and redefine what quality survivorship looks like.”
