Time to Turn Tobacco Control Commitments Into Action – Association of European Cancer Leagues

Association of European Cancer Leagues shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Five years ago, the EU set ambitious targets for tobacco control in Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. Yet progress since then has been limited.

The Nordic Cancer Union, representing several ECL members, has written to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the EU Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi to stress the urgency of updating the EU tobacco regulation to prevent cancer.

It’s time to turn commitments into concrete action and fully implement the EU Beating Cancer Plan. Critical gaps in tobacco control must be addressed to close the loopholes exploited by the tobacco industry and protect the health of future generations. There is no more time to lose.

The Nordic countries have a unique experience in reducing smoking – but are also witnessing firsthand the challenges posed by industry and their new products, particularly among young people.

Read the letter.”
