Ashish Kamat: Marking 10 Years of the Endowed Professorship in Cancer Research at UT MD Anderson

Ashish Kamat, Associated Editor at European Urology Oncology, shared on LinkedIn:

“Hard to believe it has been 10 years!

Having the ‘Wayne B. Duddlesten, Sr. Professorship in Cancer Research in Honor of Dr. Ashish M. Kamat‘ established at UT MD Anderson remains one of the great honors of my career.

Having an endowed professorship bear both our names is especially meaningful given the friendship Wayne and I shared.

Forever grateful.”

The Story Behind the Professorship

Wayne B. Duddlesten, Sr. (1930-2010) was a prominent Houston real estate developer, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

The relationship between Wayne B. Duddlesten, Sr. and Dr. Ashish M. Kamat was built on a deep personal friendship and care journey.

In 2005, Mr. Duddlesten was diagnosed with bladder cancer and chose MD Anderson Cancer Center, where Dr. Kamat served as his urologic oncologist and surgeon.

Several of Wayne’s friends mentioned MD Anderson, so we checked it out. And after meeting urologic oncologist and surgeon Ashish Kamat, we knew that we’d made the right decision.

– said Karen Duddlesten, Wayne B. Duddlesten’s wife.

Following Mr. Duddlesten’s passing in 2010, his family and the Wayne Duddlesten Foundation directed charitable gifts to support Dr. Kamat’s research program.

In 2016, the Wayne Duddlesten Foundation formally established the ‘Wayne B. Duddlesten, Sr. Professorship in Cancer Research in Honor of Dr. Ashish M. Kamat’ at UT MD Anderson. This endowed professorship provides ongoing funding to advance cancer research and education in the Department of Urology.
