“You know, I have been watching the sheer joy in the cancer research community over the advancements in cancer research in the past few months. A room full of physicians and scientist brought to their feet in a standing ovation for results from a pancreatic cancer trial.
Utter joy at the prospect of vaccines that could cure cancer in our lifetime. I hear over and over again from people that we cancer researchers are horrible people who do not want the cure for cancer. I hope you see us celebrating this too. I hope you realize that we lose loved ones to cancer too, and I hope you realize we would rather scrub toilet floors for a living, than stand in the way the way of the cure for this horrible disease from which we have watched too many people die.
None of us went into this for the money, but because we had a passion to find a cure. To be this close in my lifetime, even from my peripheral view, is an honor and a privilege I can never describe.
And yes I’m aware of all the caveats that surround these early data, but you won’t squash my excitement nonetheless!”
