Arif Kamal: Celebrating 20 years of Palliative Care at Michigan Medicine

Arif Kamal, Chief Patient Officer of American Cancer Society and President of American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Appreciate the invitation from Phillip Rodgers to give Department of Medicine Grand Rounds at Michigan Medicine Department of Internal Medicine.

In celebrating 20 years of Palliative Care at Michigan Medicine, we talked about the increasing criticality of compassion in the delivery of medicine. As AI and other technologies play a bigger part in the delivery of care, the fundamental role of clinician as healer will not change.

In fact, the skills and intentionality needed to bring empathy and action will be even more important as new innovations bring choice and hope, but may not solve for complexity or certainty.

And no one entity can do it alone. The collaboration between Michigan Medicine and American Cancer Society is storied and deep, and led by two wonderful leaders pictured in Jennifer Nagy and Megan Landry.

Congratulations to 20 years of palliative care at Michigan Medicine. National leaders who continue to lead the way.”
