“Thank you Mark Lodge and Cancer Control for the opportunity to share my thoughts about the global cancer landscape, progress that we have made together, and future opportunities in an environment of increasing cure but also increasing incidence, widening disparities and decreasing global resources.
The largest returns on investment with shrinking resources are prevention and early detection (i.e., screening and stage-shifting) and supporting individuals to modify behavior and seek these services. There is still much to be done to achieve this and combat the increasing misinformation of social media – HPV vaccination is a clear example where some countries are reaching the goal of elimination of cervical cancer whereas others are struggling to vaccinate.
