“People with cancer face up to 3 times higher rates of antimicrobial-resistant infections (The Lancet Oncology), making AMR a direct threat to cancer outcomes.
At the side event on Mobilising Action on AMR and NCDs at UNGA, a collaboration between the Norwegian Cancer Society, UICC, the Swedish Cancer Society, GARDP, and the Permanent Mission of Norway to the United Nations, experts stressed:
- The urgent need to integrate AMR into NCD care, especially cancer care
- Ensuring equitable access and filling R&D gaps
- The role of the NCD community in driving accelerated action
- The importance of civil society in a comprehensive AMR response
