“Thriled to share First ever NEDSL!
Ethiopia’s Diagnostic Milestone: NEDSL Approved and Ready for Implementation,
We are proud to announce the official approval of Ethiopia’s first National Essential Diagnostics Service List (NEDSL).
This follows the launch of our 5-year National Diagnostic Strategy last year and is a key tool for its operationalization.
What is the NEDSL?
A historic, unified national standard integrating Laboratory, Pathology, Radiology, and Nuclear Diagnostics to ensure available, accessible, and equitable diagnostic services at all care levels.
Immediate Actions Required:
All Regional Health Bureaus and health facilities must:
- Adopt and align their test menus with their designated tier.
- Conduct gap assessments for equipment, supplies, and staff.
- Use the NEDSL for planning, procurement, and budgeting.
Why This Matters:
This guideline is crucial for improving diagnostic accuracy, enabling timely treatment, strengthening outbreak control, and advancing universal health coverage.
Support and Monitoring:
The Ministry will provide technical guidance and digital tools. Compliance will be tracked via EMR, DIMS and DHIS2 to monitor nationwide implementation.
Our Gratitude:
- HE. Dr Mekedes Daba-Minister of Health
- HE. Dr Dereje Duguma SMO-PSW
- Hon Dr Elubabiur Buno MSLEO
All 4 professional Association
We sincerely thank all professionals, institutions, and stakeholders whose expertise and collaboration made the NEDSL a reality.
Together, we are building a stronger healthcare system for all Ethiopians.”
