Abeid M. Athman Omar: 4th East Africa Oncology Summit in Nairobi

Abeid M. Athman Omar, Clinical Oncology Specialist at Kenyatta University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Yesterday we had a successful 4th East Africa Oncology Summit in Nairobi courtesy of unrestricted sponsorship by AstraZeneca. The summit brought together everyone working in the field of oncology (pathologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, clinical and radiation oncologists, gynaelogy-oncologists, patient advocates, policymakers among others).

We had speakers coming from all over Africa including Egypt, Tanzania, Uganda, Mauritius and the host country carried the day. Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Professionals members featured prominently in the event.

I was honoured to take the podium to talk about management of EGFR+ stage 4 lung cancer with a focus on FLAURA2 data. Lung cancer continues to be under reported and misdiagnosed in most parts of LMIC. Usually diagnosed as pTB before the lung cancer diagnosis is made. Many countries have taken huge strides and the situation is improving.

I would like to thank the organisers for their invitation and great event.

Our next big event in Kenya will be the Africa Radiation Oncology Group (AFROG) Annual Scientific Conference hosted by Clinical and Radiation Oncology Society of Kenya (CROS-K).

Looking forward to seeing you all there.”
