“Research Spotlight: The Lived Experiences of Women Post-Mastectomy.
I am pleased to announce the publication of our study in Supportive Care in Cancer: ‘Lived experiences of Ethiopian women post-mastectomy without reconstruction: findings and guidelines from a feminist phenomenological study.’
This publication is the culmination of an immense amount of work and dedication to improving survivorship care. To give you a sense of the scale of this project: the final thesis draft spanned 215 pages, reflecting a deep, rigorous dive into the qualitative realities of post-operative care in Ethiopia.
A special acknowledgment goes to the Principal Investigator, Blen Alemu, whose tremendous effort and leadership were instrumental in bringing this comprehensive research to life.
Key Insights:
Using a feminist phenomenological approach, we explored the multidimensional challenges-body image, psychological well-being, and social navigation-faced by women following a mastectomy without reconstruction.
Crucially, this work doesn’t just identify gaps; it provides evidence-based guidelines to help clinicians provide more holistic, culturally attuned support.”
