Abdu Adem Yesufe: Privileged to Be a Speaker at the Inauguration of the Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology

Abdu Adem Yesufe, Program Director of Adult Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It was my great pleasure and privilege to be a speaker at the historic inauguration of the Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, along with HE Dereje Duguma, state minister, MoH, and other stakeholders, local and international experts.

I congratulate our paediatric haematology colleagues on the successful establishment of the society despite the significant challenges they have overcome. This is a testament to their resilience, commitment, and hard work. It marks a significant milestone in institutionalising and shaping childhood cancer care delivery in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology will be instrumental in leading national efforts to ensure a better future for our children

I also extend my deepest thanks and respect to the pioneering fathers of paediatric haematology services and training in Ethiopia (Dr Haileyesus Adam and his colleagues)

The technical working team executed a flawless event organisation in every respect.

The testimonials from child cancer survivors and their parents were not only heart-touching but also demonstrated that cancer is a curable disease if diagnosed early.

It was also an exciting moment to see the newly appointed ambassador of the Ethiopian Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, who turned her cancer experience into fierce advocacy for children across Ethiopia

The Ministry of Health, The Aslan Project, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC, Tesfa Addis Parents Childhood Cancer Organization (TAPCCO), Tesfa Addis Parents Childhood Cancer Organization TAPCCO and other stakeholders deserve huge recognition for their contribution throughout the journey.”
