World Child Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cancer treatment can interrupt a child’s education for months, sometimes even years. At Mbingo Baptist Hospital, Cameroon, a new school and play space is helping ensure learning can continue throughout treatment.
Through our collaboration with Amgen (Sean Lybrand, Philip Anderson), World Child Cancer is proud to support the opening of this new space at Mbingo Baptist Hospital.
Each year, approximately 180 children receive treatment at the hospital. Equipped with furniture, books, stationery, and learning materials, the new school gives children the opportunity to continue learning while receiving treatment, helping them stay connected to their education, development, and a sense of normality.
The school was officially launched earlier this year during International Childhood Cancer Day, with celebrations shared by children, caregivers, parents, and medical staff.
“This is going to make a significant difference not only to the care of our children here, but to their continuous growth.” – Dr. Fomekong Gerard Tchinda
Hearing directly from parents and caregivers showed just how meaningful this space will be. Vanessa, whose daughter is receiving treatment at the hospital, shared her gratitude and hope for the opportunities the school will create for children like hers.
Watch the video below to hear from Vanessa and the healthcare staff behind this important milestone.
We look forward to seeing the lasting impact this school will have, supporting children not only through treatment, but through their education and future aspirations too.”
