Sami Mansfield: Challenges in implementing exercise oncology and cancer rehabilitation
Sami Mansfield posted on LinkedIn:
“Almost every day, I hear from my oncology colleagues that although they emphasize the importance of exercise oncology and cancer rehabilitation, implementing it is much more challenging!
I know this is true for all of us, and another important consideration is how our personal habits and beliefs influence our recommendations.
The science is very clear, especially related to the critical importance of skeletal muscle, and we know from the data that low adherence to strength training is where most adults fall out of meeting the recommendations.
There are many excellent resources available in our world of online and video content. Although not every exercise may be perfect for an individual, being able to see what exercise means for someone by watching a video can drive them toward behavior change and a more personalized approach.
Let’s not let perfect be the enemy of good. Looking for resources?
Check out the updated content and YouTube playlist from a partnership I have with Living Beyond Breast Cancer and our beACTive exercise series, where each video shows three levels of function and includes some very brave survivors! This series would apply to any cancer and feel free to try one yourself!”
