Hassan Hashmi Reflects on the Origins of Local Anesthesia
Hassan Hashmi, General and Colorectal Surgeon at Las Vegas Surgical Associates, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Did you know? Surgical History
In 1884, Austrian ophthalmologist Karl Koller introduced cocaine as the first local anesthetic, revolutionizing surgery.
Until then, nearly every operation required general anesthesia or was unbearably painful.
Every advance in surgical history reminds us that progress in medicine is built step by step, discovery by discovery.”
