“I want to emphasize the early integration of palliative care. Research indicates it significantly improves QoL and well-being, and some studies suggest potentially extending survival.
Patients on the road to cure need palliation of symptoms just as much as those with more advanced cancer.”

Lynn M. Schuchter is the President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Dr. Schuchter is the Chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, Director of the Tara Miller Melanoma Center and Professor of Hematology-Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Schuchter served on the ASCO Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012, as well as several ASCO committees, including terms as Chair of the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee, Cancer Research Committee, and Cancer Communications Committee. In 2019, she was awarded ASCO’s Women Who Conquer Cancer Mentorship Award.
