Elizabeth McKenna: April special issue of Cancer Discovery is now online

Elizabeth McKenna, Executive Editor at Cancer Discovery, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am so excited to announce that the April special issue of Cancer Discovery is now online, just as AACR24 is about to kick off! This is an entirely community-driven issue devoted to reconceptualizing the way we approach cancer that I think exemplifies the journal’s commitment to work together with the entire cancer research community to amplify new ways of thinking.

The issue kicks off with an editorial by Editors-in-Chief Lew Cantley and Luis Diaz: Continuing the Conversation

Next, an update from Catharine Young, Ph.D. and Danielle Carnival, PhD on the Biden Cancer Moonshot: American Progress, Global Commitment.

There’s an inaugural commentary for the cancer research community by new National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director, Kimryn Rathmell: Using the National Cancer Plan to Drive Innovation in Cancer Research

David Scott and Dinah Singer and introduce the 5 new Cancer Grand Challenges teams
There are 22 thought-provoking commentaries that were submitted in response to the journal’s call for commentaries last Fall, ranging from topics like cancer interception to how artificial intelligence could be used to model pediatric cancer.

We asked early- and mid-career cancer researchers what they think is next for the Cancer Hallmarks.
And finally: The Hallmarks of Precancer.”

Elizabeth McKenna is the Executive Director of Cancer Discovery at the American Association for Cancer Research. Elizabeth earned her PhD from Harvard University and trained with Dr. Charles Roberts at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her research was among the first to show that pediatric tumors characterized by mutations in chromatin remodelers are genomically stable and instead driven by epigenetic deregulation of key target genes. She joined Cancer Discovery shortly after its launch as its founding Science Writer and became an editor in 2014, rising through the editorial ranks to become the journal’s Executive Editor in 2019. She is a member of the 40 Under 40 in Cancer Class of 2021.
