Rahul Banerjee: Can GEP Refine High-Risk Myeloma Criteria? Myeloma-XI Says Yes

Rahul Banerjee, Assistant Professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and at the University of Washington, shared a post on X about a paper by Sina Alexandra Beer et al. published in Blood:

“Provocative Blood Myeloma-XI trial analysis!

The raison d’être of HR MM criteria is to prevent early relapse. 2025 IMS/IMWG criteria are better, but can GEP go the final mile to identify functional HR MM?

Evidently, yes! Only 2/135 truly unexpected FHRMM when both are used.

I am admittedly a Luddite with GEP in practice (more of a ‘scaredOfInsuranceDenial-ite’)… but this is a great and timely argument for its SOC incorporation.

Unanswered q: Will higher maintenance help for GEP-HR?

Excellent work by Beer Martin Kaiser et al.”

Martin Kaiser, Professor of Haematology at the Institute of Cancer Research, and Consultant Haemato-Oncologist at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, shared this post, adding:

“Many thanks, Rahul! At least some insurers are coming around and realise that the (one-off!) upfront cost of better diagnostics can be a mutually useful, patient-centric long-term investment. Considering treatment adaptation based on MRD is much safer when knowing the risk better.”
