Of course, I had seen Prof. Alberto Costa many times before, at high-level oncology meetings, always surrounded by dozens of people eager to greet him, to speak with him, or simply to be in his presence. I often hesitated to approach him. What could I possibly say? Why would he be interested in talking to me?
Then life took an unexpected turn: I became the Managing Editor of CancerWorld, the magazine he founded and nurtured for two decades with such care, leaving behind a legacy that shaped oncology communication in Europe and beyond. Suddenly, I had so much to share with him, so many questions to ask, so much to learn.
Yesterday was different. It was not just me seeing him from afar, we truly met. Not in an international conference hall, but in OncoDaily’s Armenian office, in my own country.
He was the same legend everyone admires and wants to approach, yet this time he felt so close, so dear to my heart. Over the past months, as I immersed myself in the archives of CancerWorld, I felt his presence in every article, and yesterday that connection came alive. We instantly engaged in a conversation that lasted for hours.
