The Lancet Highlights Gaza’s Public Health Collapse – ICC
The Institute of Cancer and Crisis (ICC) shared on LinkedIn about a recent paper by Roberto De Voglia et al. published on The Lancet:
“Breaking the selective silence on the public health catastrophe in Gaza – highlighted in The Lancet
A recent correspondence published in The Lancet (Vol. 406, Issue 10504, August 2025) urges the global health community to speak out about the unprecedented humanitarian and public health collapse unfolding in Gaza, warning that:
- Life expectancy has fallen by approximately 35 years in 2024, a decline rarely seen in modern history
- Widespread food insecurity, malnutrition-related deaths, and broken health systems point to a catastrophic emergency
- The scale of decline in population health is now greater than what was documented during the crisis in Rwanda in the early 1990s
At ICC, we believe that staying silent is not an option. Innocent civilians – especially children – must be protected, and the global health community must speak up.
We support the authors’ call for urgent international attention and action.
