No Child Lost to Late Diagnosis: COMPASS Project Tackles Pediatric Cancer in Ghana
Emmanuella-Faith Amoako, Director of Clinical Affairs at Yemaachi Biotech, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We launched COMPASS Project (Community Parents Navigating Support for Early Childhood Cancer Detection) last week – a bold step towards improving early detection and timely referral for children with cancer in Ghana.
This initiative brings together parent navigators, healthcare workers, and technology to bridge the gap between communities and specialist care. With grant support from Foundation S, we are starting our pilot in Greater Accra and Central Regions, building the COMPASS App, creating culturally appropriate training materials, and empowering parents as community health advocates.
Our vision is simple but powerful: no child should be lost to cancer because help came too late. By building on community trust, strengthening referral pathways, and harnessing real-time digital tracking, we aim to make early detection the norm, not the exception.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners – Childhood Cancer Society of Ghana, Ghana Health Service, WHO Country Office, World Child Cancer, Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, Vivat Turkson Foundation, Paediatric Society of Ghana (PSG), and many others who share in this mission.”
