Koichi Takahashi: How Does Cancer Chemotherapy Drive the Evolution of Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasms?
Koichi Takahashi, Physician Scientist at MD Anderson. Researching and treating leukemia, shared on X:
“New paper in Nature Genetics!
How does cancer chemotherapy reshape the HSC landscape and drive the evolution of therapy-related myeloid neoplasms? We uncovered this process through single-colony WGS! See the full paper here!
This work appears back-to-back with a powerful study from Jyoti Nangalia and Mike Stratton (Wellcome Sanger Institute) profiling the impact of wide array of cytotoxic therapy on human hematopoiesis.
Also, accompanied by a fantastic editorial by Terrance Wong and Dan Link, placing our findings in the broader context of CH and t-MN evolution.
Together, our studies offer complementary views into how chemotherapy leaves genetic damage to our normal HSCs, remodels the stem cell architecture, and drives therapy-induced malignancies.
Big thanks to our many collaborators Peggy Goodell, Elizabeth Shpall, Chiraag Kapadia, Jyoti Nangalia, Mike Spencer Chapman, Daisuke Nakada Drs. Haeno/Saeki Tokyo University of Science (TUS)
Huge congratulations to all members of the Takahashi Lab – especially our superstar computational scientist/physician-scientist, Hidetaka Uryu, who truly did it all in this project! and Ken Furudate, ClonalHematopoiesis, tMN, SingleCell, TP53, PPM1D.
And nothing delights you more than seeing your work highlighted by Eric Topol”
