Matthew Kurian: The 1st Annual KYSCO Policy Summit 2025 Brought Major Energy to the Bluegrass
Matthew Kurian, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The 1st Annual KYSCO Policy Summit 2025 brought major energy to the Bluegrass! From drug access to guidelines/insurance issues to burnout—we covered it all!
It was an honor to hear Dr. Robin Zon, past ASCO President, kick things off with a powerful keynote on driving knowledge, advocacy, and how technology such as AI plays a major role in cancer care! Incredibly inspired to see a fellow community oncologist leading American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)!
Takeaways from an incredible lineup:
- NCCN Policy Updates – Sean McCarson, MPA
- Drug Donation Programs – Jill Rhodes
- LCD Process and Engagement – Meredith Loveless, MD, FACOG
- Financial Analytics for Practices – Ron DiGiaimo
I was also proud to join a panel on workforce challenges in Kentucky—moderated by the incredible Dr. Ray Page—alongside Fay Hlubocky and Rebecca Champion! As an early-career oncologist, I see how burnout and staffing shortages are impacting care today—and I know what the next generation of oncologists is looking for and it’s changing and different from 30 years ago! Burnout is NOT a generational/millennial issue!
As a member of the KYSCO Executive Committee, I’m excited to take these insights and help shape our advocacy agenda across the Commonwealth. The future of oncology in Kentucky is bold, collaborative, and patient-first!”
