Milan Mishkovikj: Ending the Silent Epidemic of Fatty Liver Disease and Addressing Its Deadly Ties to NCDs
Milan Mishkovikj, Vice-President, Program Manager, and Volunteer at Hepar Centar Bitola, and Board Director at ELPA, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“History in the EU Parliament.
On the occasion of Fatty Liver Day and just days before the start of Fatty Liver Month, patients, policymakers, public health experts, and scientific leaders stood united with one shared mission:
To end the silent epidemic of Fatty Liver Disease and address its deadly ties to NCDs.
Liver disease is no longer isolated – it’s now at the center of the storm, together with:
Obesity
Diabetes
CardiovascularDisease
KidneyDisease
Cancer/Liver Cancer…
All deeply connected. All are largely preventable. All are demanding urgent EU action.
Our bold question to the scientific, public health community’s and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) was clear:
Do we have the tools to screen, prevent, and act?
Yes, we do!
Now is the time for scale-up, investment, and full political commitment.
The momentum is real:
Major EU-funded projects are paving the way.
ELPA and the ELPA Working Groups are leading with unwavering determination.
Patients are no longer waiting – we’re driving the system forward.
No more delays.
Full implementation and expansion of the EUCancerPlan.
Prevention is a core pillar of the upcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan.
Risk factors like MASLD, MASH, Hepatitis, and alcohol-related liver disease must be prioritized now.
We’re not just asking for change.
We are the change.
And we will not stop until liver health is firmly embedded in every national and EU health policy agenda. The time is now.
At the heart of the EU Parliament, an extraordinary high-level meeting, hosted by MEPs Hadjipantela and Irena Joveva, brought patients, policymakers, and scientists together with one united call for action and transformation in liver health policy.
We express our deepest gratitude to all supporting MEPs who were present and their teams, and every guest who joined and reinforced this initiative.
Your commitment gives hope, strength, and momentum to millions of patients across Europe.
Together, we go further. Together, we act.”
