Lacy Hubbard: Elekta Foundation’s Progress Toward Cervical Cancer Elimination in Rwanda
Lacy Hubbard, President of the Elekta Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Cervical cancer is preventable and our FAST model is accelerating it.
Since launching Mission2027, our bold initiative has been to help Rwanda meet the WHO goal of Eliminating Cervical Cancer by 2027. We’ve been scaling up screening and preventive treatment at record speed.
Tackling HPV is essential to advancing SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights). As the Elekta Foundation, a Swedish NGO, we’re proud to support Sweden’s global leadership in this space.
On April 15, we launched mass screening in two new districts (Bugesera and Kicukiro) with a clear goal: reach 70% screening coverage in line with WHO targets.
In just one month:
53,000+ women took part in HPV self-sampling.
540 women received preventive treatment.
24 cervical cancer cases were detected and referred for care.
That’s an average of 2,000 women screened per day!
Thank you to Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) for your leadership. You never disappoint. And to our new partners, RSOG and Imbuto Foundation, your support goes far beyond funding.
A special thank-you to Gynius Plus AB. Your innovative HPV solution is helping us go faster everyday.
This is more than a campaign. It’s a movement for equity, access, and dignity. Behind every number is a woman – a mother, a sister, a pillar of her community.
I always leave field visits inspired by the energy of the women, the dedication of our ground teams, and the collaboration of local leaders. Their work powers this mission forward. It truly takes a village.
Together, we are not just delivering services, we are restoring hope and building healthier futures.”
