Douglas Flora: The AI in Oncology Guide We’ve Been Waiting For – Separating Hype from Clinical Reality
Douglas Flora, Executive Medical Director of Oncology Services at St. Elizabeth Healthcare and ACCC President-Elect, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla et al. published in ASCO Education Book.
“The AI in Oncology Guide We’ve Been Waiting For: Separating Hype from Clinical Reality
This morning’s read: honestly one of the most useful AI-in-oncology overviews I’ve come across.
Big shoutout to the authors of ‘Driving Knowledge to Action: Building a Better Future With Artificial Intelligence–Enabled Multidisciplinary Oncology’ (ASCO Education Book, 2025). This paper just gets it right.
Looking to catch up on where AI actually fits in today’s cancer care? This is the one article you need.
It covers:
- Core fundamentals of AI (finally explained clearly)
- Practical use cases by specialty (radiology, pathology, trials, you name it)
- A tumor-by-tumor breakdown of how AI is reshaping real workflows
- What we’re still missing: ethics, access, implementation hurdles
This is about as high-yield a read as they come. Everything needed to get caught up on where we truly are right now.
I’m putting printed copies in every doc’s mailbox in our office. (Yeah, it’s that good.) For those of you not as old as I am, link in comments.
Congratulations to these authors, three of whom not coincidentally serve as Editorial Board members of our beloved title, AI in Precision Oncology (Caroline, Ravi, Shawn open invitation to join).”
