Nikki Audia: Radon – The Silent Risk in Our Homes and Workplaces
Nikki Audia, Lung Navigation Specialist at Physicians Regional Healthcare, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Radon: The Silent Risk in Our Homes and Workplaces
Did you know that radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer, right behind smoking?
This invisible, odorless gas seeps up from the ground and can accumulate in homes, schools, and buildings—often without us ever knowing. What’s even more alarming is that you don’t have to be a smoker to be at risk. Thousands of non-smokers are diagnosed with lung cancer every year due to prolonged radon exposure.
We talk a lot about early detection and cutting-edge treatments, but what about prevention?
Radon is naturally occurring but deadly in high concentrations.
It’s linked not just to lung cancer but potentially other cancers as well.
1 in 15 U.S. homes has elevated radon levels.
Testing is simple. Mitigation is possible. Awareness is essential.
If you’ve never tested your home or workplace for radon, now’s the time.
Let’s start having more conversations about environmental causes of cancer—because where you live shouldn’t determine if you live.
Please consider sharing this post. You might just save a life.”
