Cynthia Jordan Highlights Breast Cancer Risks for Military Women

“Honored to Share a Powerful Conversation
Today, I had the privilege of interviewing Lindsay, a 38-year-old active-duty military servicewoman living with metastatic stage 4 breast cancer. Her strength and resilience are extraordinary — and together we are creating an incredible new resource to raise the much-needed awareness for women in the military.
The reality is sobering:
- Over 168,000 women in the U.S. are living with metastatic breast cancer today.
- Around 6% are first diagnosed at stage 4 — often young, with aggressive disease.
For women in the military, the risk is even higher: studies show 20–40% greater rates of breast cancer compared to civilians, likely due to environmental exposures, stress, and other service-related factors.
And while rare, male veterans may face double the risk of breast cancer compared to the general population.
This is not just a health issue – it’s a mission of education, advocacy, and change. Together with Lindsay, we will shine a light on the unique risks military women and men face, and help ensure awareness and screening become a priority across all branches of service.
Stay tuned as we bring this vital project to life.
Because every woman – and man – serving our country deserves the knowledge and resources to protect their future.”
