Need For Supportive Care Has Grown Exponentially – Union for International Cancer Control

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“According to The Lancet Group findings, the need for supportive care has grown exponentially — not just because of rising cancer cases, but because of a shift in public expectations.

People expect:

  • Truthful, empathic communication between providers, patients and families
  • Shared decision-making at every step
  • Care that recognises the person, not just the disease
  • Relief from suffering, with attention to physical and psychological wellbeing throughout the experience

Yet, most cancer centres remain under-equipped to meet these needs and make people-centred care a reality. This has to change.”
